Neon

Good afternoon and welcome to a sunny, spring like day here in the UK, after a very wet and stormy few weeks. I've been fortunate to have been able to work largely from home during the worst of the bad weather, as I've had a mountain of prep to do for two quite challenging audio books. The first of those books went into the studio last Thursday and was completed yesterday, so today, I'm allowing myself a little 'time out' to catch up on other stuff that needs my attention - like this blog!

After an energy sapping ten-day mark up, the second of the two books now needs to be my prime focus and I'll continue to work on it until it too goes into the studio next Tuesday. One of the trickier aspects of this book, is that it's the third in a series and has a number of recurring characters, going back to 2017, when they were first recorded. I have some voice samples to refer to and indeed, the full recordings, which I'm now listening to in an attempt to remind myself of how I voiced the original characters. As I have some time and the bulk of prep is already done, I also have the luxury of being able to simply re-read the text and familiarise myself with the actual story!

Full details of these books will become available nearer publication; as ever, I'm limited in what I can say about them until details are released by the publisher. However, what I can talk about, is the release later this week, of Neon, the first book from new author, G.S. Locke. Here's some info:

NEON

A detective desperate for revenge. A hitwoman with one last job. A killer with both on his list.

Detective Matt Jackson has reached the end. His beloved wife, Polly, is the latest victim of 'NEON' - a serial killer who displays his victims in snaking neon lights - and he can't go on without her.

Unable to take his life, Jackson hires a hitwoman to finish the job. But on the night of his own murder, he makes a breakthrough in the case, and at the last minute his hitwoman, Iris, is offered an irresistible alternative: help Jackson find and kill NEON in return for the detective's entire estate.

What follows is a game of cat and mouse between detective, hitwoman and serial killer. And when Jackson discovers it's not a coincidence that all their paths have crossed, he begins to question who the real target has been all along....

Narrated by John Banks

Written by G.S. Locke & Produced by Javier Cruz

Length: 9 hours - 4 minutes

NB: for some reason, as I play back the Soundcloud clip above, it doesn't sound at all good on this computer, although it sounds fine on my iPad - why? - I have no idea; your guess is as good as mine!

The next several weeks are looking very busy I'm glad to say, with some lovely stuff coming up, that I'm very much looking forward to. Thanks as ever, for stopping by; that's...

...all for now; more just a soon as it happens!

PS: In response to a recent Tweet about his fabulous novel, The Puppet Show, author M.W Craven, said that the audio book version was: "Expertly narrated by the annoyingly talented John Banks", to which I said, I would use the quote on my blog-site - so here it is - thanks Mr. C!
